B1739 - Superb Antique Glass Plate Photograph Raphael's 'The Sistine Madonna' C1885 J Kuhn

This is an amazing 19th Century photograph of Raphael's 'The Sistine Madonna'. It was created by J. Kuhn who set up his Paris Photographic Co. in the Rue De Rivoli, PARIS, in 1885.

The photograph was produced using the dry plate process on very thin glass. This was then mounted on a jet black background and covered with an oval of glass with a repoussé metal frame.

The back of the piece is made of cardboard and has the company's stamp. There is also a loop for hanging.

The piece is in very good antique condition. The frame has one or two dents and the gilding has mellowed with the passage of time but this does not detract.

It measures :- 28.25 cm (11.1 inches) high x 24.25 cm (9.5 inches) wide.
