B1741 - SOLD

This is a spectacular pair of antique French tapestry château curtains dating from the 19th Century. They are a feast for the eyes, are full of grandeur and would be the perfect authentic finishing touch to a period country house.

The textile is a heavy cotton tapestry weave. Each curtain has a central panel with a magnificent stag and hunting dogs to the foreground. They are under a dense canopy of  fabulous trees. Around this scene is a rose, tulip and acanthus leaf border with a shell and urn to each of the bottom two corners.  A further border of flowers and acanthus leaves finishes off the bottom of the curtains.

The colours are predominantly the greens and browns of the foliage with highlights of pink in the flowers.

Each curtain has a knotted fringe to one of the sides and the bottom. The other side and the top of the curtain is formed by the selvedge of the textile. The curtains are not lined.

They are in excellent antique condition. There are no obvious marks. There is just one narrow area about 7.5 cm (3 inches) long of damage at the bottom of one of the curtains (please see photos). This could be repaired or left as it is as it does not draw the eye. The curtains have not been dry cleaned.

Each curtain measures:- 290 cm (9 ft 6.25 inches) long x  130 cm (4 ft 3 inches) wide. These dimensions do not include the fringe which is 9 cm (3.5 inches) long.

A spectacular pair of antique French curtains to add an authentic château chic statement and another superb period French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.

N.B. Any curtain accessories we have used to display the curtains are not included unless otherwise stated.
