B1747 - SOLD

This is a stunning antique French religious plaque dating from the 19th Century. It  is very decorative and architectural. It would be perfect for a special contemplative niche.

The plaque is made in mahogany in the shape of a lancet church window. The edges are raised and are defined by brass beading with faux tie detail. Within this is a sumptuous green silk velvet backing at the centre of which is a gorgeous repoussé pewter plate entitle ' La Consecration A La Vierge'.

Mary is standing in the centre of the plate. She is holding a Fleur De Lys and has a gorgeous halo. Seated in front of her are 3 beautiful angels wearing ethereal gowns and flowers in their hair. Behind her another winged angel carries a bouquet of flowers. Five doves in flight complete this wondrous scene.

The detail to the metal work is extra-ordinary - see the delicacy of the angel's hands.

The back of the plaque has 2 loops for hanging. There was once a support for standing it up but this has now long gone.

The plaque measures :- 33 cm (13 inches) high x 21.5 cm (8.5 inches) wide.

This is a fabulous religious piece to display and use and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
