This fantastic antique French marriage stand in it's original glass vitrine dates from the Napoleon III period C1860. It would have been used to display keepsakes from a wedding such as the bridal couronne and flowers from the bouquet.

This superb period piece would now make a fabulous decorative piece or a display stand for jewellery perhaps in a château chic boudoir.

The focal point of the stand is the plump burgundy padded silk velvet cushion upon which the original wedding couronne & corsage would have sat.

Above the cushion is a central diamond shaped mirror around which are gilded toleware flowers and leaves. A stunning toleware hirondelle with a flower garland wreath in it's beak crowns this amazing confection.

Beneath the velvet cushion, which sits in a toleware crown is a rectangular mirror also surrounded by further toleware flowers and leaves - just amazing.

The marriage stand sits upon a wire base in it's original glass vitrine. The vitrine has obscured glass to the back and base and clear glass to the sides, door and top.

The vitrine sits on 4 elegant gilded feet. The frame of the vitrine is made in finely worked gilded metal.

The door is hinged and has two clasps. Above the door is a bevelled mirror pediment with a crest and flower garland swags - just amazing.

The marriage stand and it's vitrine have survived the years in sturdy antique condition. There is a little bending to the metal on the door but this is purely cosmetic and does not affect it's strength.

The vitrine measures:- 37 cm (14.5 inches) high x 21 cm (8.25 inches) wide x 14 cm (5.5 inches) deep.
