B1836 - SOLD

This is a fabulous huge antique French woven tapestry wall hanging dating from the early 1900's. It has a bucolic scene and is after an 18th Century Aubusson tapestry in the 'Verdures fines' series. It is an incredibly atmospheric piece and would be superb as a focal point or as a backdrop to antiques in a country house home.

The scene is a beautiful rural vista. There is a stunning central tree, behind which is an architectural folly and a waterfall. The vegetation is lush and plentiful and the scene is accented with a variety of charming birds. See the pheasants, the heron and the sweet song birds in the tree.

All this splendour is framed by a decorative sewn floral border.

The colours are muted browns and greens which have faded with the passage of time. The original colours can be seen at the centre bottom of the border where possibly a chair had sat for decades.

The tapestry is of excellent quality and is woven in cotton. It is in superb antique condition. It has fixtures at the back for hanging purposes.

It measures :- 205 cm (6 ft 8.75 inches) wide x 166 cm (5 ft 5.3 inches ) high.

A fantastic huge tapestry wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles and decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.

N.B.  The clips we have used to hang the tapestry are not included.
