B1837 - Spectacular Antique French Gilded Spelter Virgin Mary, Madonna Religious Statue

This is a spectacular antique French statue of the Virgin Mary. It would have been bought as a souvenir of a visit to Lourdes. It is made from gilded spelter and is very decorative and architectural. It would be superb as part of a religious display.

Mary stands on a splendid ecclesiastical architectural podium. To the corners, it has marbled glass pillars in a sublime shade of green. To the front is the image of the Sacred Holy Lamb and there are decorative faux windows to the back and sides. The podium sits on 4 sturdy feet.

Upon this architectural splendour stands the Virgin Mary. Her hands are clasped together in prayer. She has a removeable enamelled halo bearing the words 'JE SUIS L'IMMACULÉE CONCEPTION''. Her gown falls around her in wondrous folds. At her feet are the words 'ND de LOURDES'.

The staue is a substantial piece weighing 1.75 kg. The gilding is thick and lustrous with a subtle antique patina.

The statue measures :- 33 cm (13 inches) high to the top of the halo x 13 cm (5.1 inches) wide x 12.75 cm (5 inches) deep.
