B1838 - SOLD

This is an amazing vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the early to mid 1900's. It is huge and has a stunning 18th Century Italian riverside scene. It would create a fantastic focal point in a room.

The tapestry is entitled 'Paysages Piemontais' and is based on the scenery of the Piedmont area of Italy which is at the foot of the Alps.

The river is spectacular. In the foreground a maid towels her mistress after a bathe in the water. In front of them La Basilica de Superga sits atop the cliff which rises dramatically from the river. The scenery and vegetation are breathtaking!

The colours are soft greens and pinks and there is a touch of lilac in the costumes.

The tapestry is woven in cotton. It is in good vintage condition. At the top of the tapestry are some small marks and holes where it was once attached to a batten and there is one area in the top right hand corner which has some light marking and a smaller dark mark (please see photos) but this does not affect the overall splendour of this marvelous tapestry.

The tapestry measures :- 190 cm (6ft 2.75 inches) wide x 142 cm (4ft 7.9 inches) high.

An exceptional vintage tapestry to add a dramatic finishing touch to a room and another divine French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.

N.B. The clips we have used to display the tapestry are not included.
