B1857 - SOLDThis is a fabulous antique French tapestry tablecloth / throw dating from the 19th Century. It would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a room.
It is thick and sumptuous & is woven in cotton in amazing detail. There is a central oval medallion with a roses vignette and to each of the corners a gorgeous angry swan confronts a dog. The rest of the piece is covered in a plethora of roses and peonies.
The colours have faded with the passage of time to a subtle palette of atmospheric greens and browns.
A tasselled knotted fringe around the edge finishes off this charming old textile.
We have left the throw as we found it in good antique condition. There is some very minor surface wear in places and some wear to the fringe (please see photos) but nothing to draw the eye or detract.
The throw measures :- 145 cm (4 ft 9.1 inches) x 140 cm (4 ft 7.1 inches) not including the fringe. The fringe is about 10 cm (4 inches) long.
