B1858 - SOLDThis glorious oval antique French gesso on wood frame is truly a rare find. It is not just beautiful in itself but also contains two gorgeous antique wedding couronnes. The frame has a stunning bow and ribbontail crest and is gilded over gesso. The glass is domed and holds beneath it the wedding couronnes displayed on a peach silk damask background. To the top of the display area is a couronne with beautiful pink silk roses and flowers and gilded leaves, dating, according to the inscription on the back of the frame, 1948. Beneath this is a delicate couronne with wax buds, silk leaves and flowers. It is preserved in amazing condition and dates 1923. When we turn the frame over we see a hand written inscription documenting the history of these two fabulous couronnes - just lovely! There are two metal loops on the back for hanging purposes. The frame and it's contents are in good antique condition. There is a little minor distressing to the gilding and we can just see that the tip of one of the gesso ribbontails has chipped to show the wire but this does not detract from the beauty of this amazing piece. The frame measures:- 42 cm (16.5 inches) high x 30.25 cm (12 inches) wide. A gorgeous treasure to add happiness to a chateau chic boudoir or display and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
