B1939 - SOLD
This is a superb rare antique French Art Nouveau plaster bust dating about 1900. She is entitled 'ROSE DE MAI' PAR TOSCAN and is exquisitely pretty.
She has a happy smiling face and gorgeous brown eyes and it is these eyes that give the bust it's rarity, for they are made of glass.
They are made in amazing detail and are of the highest quality. The whites are porcelain in colour. The irises are a deep velvety shade of brown and are incredibly life like. They are perfectly set to give Rose her kind and gentle expression.
Rose's hair is thick and lustrous. It hangs down her back in waves and is held at one side with the flower of her name.
The bust is in atmospheric dark shades. The paint has patinated to perfection over the years which adds to it's charm and beauty. It is a substantial piece and weighs nearly 4 kg.
Rose is held on an integral plaster plinth which bears the brass plaque with her title and a signature to the side.
She measures :- H 45 cm (17.7 inches) x W 24 cm (9.4 inches) x D 15 cm (5.9 inches).
This is a gorgeous bust to add an authentic antique French finishing touch and another divine brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
