B1941 - SOLD
This is a fabulous huge antique French tapestry château curtain in the most heavenly flower and bow design and dating from the 19th Century. There is masses of textile to incorporate into any number of interiors projects and the good news is that we also have another one of these, B1940, listed in our other items.
The tapestry is woven in cotton in beautiful shades of pink and green on a pale green background. The colours remain true across the panel with no obvious signs of fading.
The textile is of good weight (the panel weighs about 2.7 kg) and is in good antique condition with just one or two very minor marks (please see photos) which blend into the design and do not draw the eye.
The front of the top of the panel is hemmed and is sewn with a few curtain hooks, possibly because it was once covered with a pelmet. There is a seam down the middle of the curtain and the sides are formed by the fabric selvedges. The bottom of the curtain is hemmed. It is longer on the left hand side than the right.
We have left it as we found it, it has not been dry cleaned but in our opinion it is ready for use in a period home where the characteristics it has acquired over the last 100 + years will be celebrated.
The panel is 240 cm (7 ft 10.5 inches) wide and is 248 cm (8 ft 1.6 inches) long on the right hand side and 273 cm (8ft 11.5 inches) long on the left hand side.
An exceptionally gorgeous piece of antique French textile to incorporate into an interiors project. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique & vintage French textiles, curtains & curtain accessories, and decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'!
N.B. Any accessories we have used to display the panel are not included.
