B1946 - SOLDThis is a sublime large vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It is entitled 'Verdure aux Châteaux and is after an 18th Century Aubusson tapestry. It is a very atmospheric piece and would look superb in a country house home.
It is of superb quality and is woven in cotton in wonderful colour and detail.
It has a château garden setting with a fabulous architectural fountain to the centre. The fountain has a large shell bowl supported by a cherub with a fish tail. The water falls from the shell into a tranquil pool surrounded by lush plants and flowers. In the background a tower and bridge can be seen framed to either side by a fabulous canopy of trees.
Around this glorious scene is a sewn border with a scrolled acanthus leaf design.
The colours are atmospheric greens, browns, and greys with highlights of blue and pink in the flowers, birds and water.
The tapestry is in good vintage condition. It is lined and has metal rings sewn on the back for hanging purposes.
It measures :- 153 cm (5 ft 0.25 inches) high x 125 cm (4 ft 1.25 inches) wide.
