B1947 - SOLDThis is a superb antique French tapestry tablecloth / throw dating from the 19th Century. It would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a room.
It is very crisp and is woven in cotton in amazing detail. There is a central decorative area surrounded by a frieze of promenading 18th Century society characters in fabulous costume. This in turn is surrounded by two decorative borders. A fringe to the edges finishes off this wonderful old textile.
The colours are atmospheric browns and black with the merest hint of faded aubergine.
We have left the throw as we found it in good antique condition. There are one or two very minor marks (please see photos) which blend into the design and two tiny paint spots which one would have to search to find.
The throw measures :- 144 cm (4 ft 8.75 inches) x 130 cm (4 ft 3.2 inches) not including the fringe. The fringe is about 5 cm (2 inches) long.
