B1949 - SOLDThis is a beautiful large antique French woven tapestry wall hanging dating from the early 1900's. It has a bucolic woodland scene and is after the paintings of Jean Baptiste Camille Corot. It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch and would look superb in a country house home. The scene is a gathering of maidens dancing in a woodland clearing. Behind them are fabulous towering trees and in the foreground is lush vegetation. The colours are subtle shades of green, brown and ochre with pastel shades in the flowers and garments. The bottom left hand corner is woven with 'D'apres Corot'. The tapestry is of good quality and is tightly woven in cotton. It is lined and has rings on the back for hanging purposes. We have left the tapestry as we found it. The colours have faded and darkened a little with the passage of time and there are one or two very subtle marks (please see photos) which do not draw the eye. It has not been dry cleaned but in our opinion is ready to hang in a period home where it's characteristics of age will be celebrated. The tapestry measures :- 187 cm (6 ft 1.6 inches) wide x 140 cm (4 ft 7.1 inches ) high. A fantastic large tapestry wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles and decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'. N.B. - The clips we have used to hang the tapestry are not included.
