B1952 - Exquisite Long Antique French Silk Aubusson Tapestry Chateau Portiere / Curtain
This is an exquisite antique French Aubusson tapestry portiere / curtain dating from the late 1800's, early 1900's. It would have come from a château and would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a room.
It has a champagne coloured damask effect background which shimmers with the unmistakeable prescence of silk. There is a border to the sides and bottom. Within the border is a fantastic flower garland design which culminates in a fabulous bouquet in each of the bottom two corners. These are linked at the top with 2 flower garlands held by a central bow with ribbontails and below with 2 similar swags which meet at a central shell shaped urn of flowers - just fabulous!
The colours are gorgeous shades of pink, mauve, ochre and green which look superb against the champagne background.
The curtain is finished all round and has a 27 cm (10.6 inches) hem at the top.
The piece is in good antique condition. The colours on the left hand side as one looks at it are slightly faded and there is a pink watermark at the bottom on the same side. There is one faint mark at the top of the curtain (please see photos). None of these characteristics draw the eye or detract from the beauty of this gorgeous curtain. The curtain has not been dry cleaned.
It measures :- 302 cm (9 ft 11 inches) long x 118 cm (3 ft 10.5 inches) wide.
A spectacular antique French portiere to use and enjoy and another divine antique French textile find from La Belle Étoffe!
N.B. The clips we have used to hang the curtain are not included.
