B2015 - SOLDThis is a beautiful pair of long antique French tapestry château curtains dating from the 19th Century. They are a feast for the eyes and would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a room. The curtains are made in a woven cotton tapestry. The tapestry has a gorgeous floral design with swags and pink vignettes on a champagne background. There is a green and purple floral border to the sides and bottom of each curtain. The tapestry is in good antique condition with just a little fading to the colours. The leading edges of the curtains and the bottoms are sewn with a passementerie now worn and fluffed with the passage of time (please see photos). The tops of the curtains are pleated and are sewn with 5 wooden rings. The rings have had a little worm in the past but this has now long gone and the rings remain sturdy. The curtains are lined. The linings have marks and wear commensurate with the last 100 + years. There is a right angled tear in the right hand one (please see photos). The curtains are of good weight, hang beautifully and would certainly help to keep the draughts out. We have left the curtains as we found them. In our opinion, perhaps after a little attention has been paid to the passementerie, they are ready to hang in a period home where the characteristics they have acquired over the last 100 + years will be celebrated. They have not been dry cleaned. Each curtain measures :- 255 cm (8 feet 4 inches) long x 117 cm (3 ft 10 inches) wide at the bottom and 70 cm (2 ft 3.5 inches) wide at the top. This is a fabulous pair of antique French curtains to add an authentic château chic statement and another divine period French textile find from La Belle Étoffe. N.B. Any accessories we have used to display the curtains are not included unless otherwise stated. Please hover cursor over picture for magnified detail and click on picture for enlarged photo. SOLD
