B2088 - Fabulous Antique French Mount / Plaque, Cherub, Putti, Maidens & Butterflies

This beautiful antique French gilded metal mount would originally have come from a mirror, bed or armoire and dates from the 1800's. It would look stunning over a doorway or as a centre piece on a curtain pelmet. Fixed above a bed it could form part of a ciel de lit from which to drape curtains.

The design is very unusual and is full of power and action. It depicts a winged cherub playing a lyre in a boat. The boat is being pulled through the waves by a sail held aloft by two beautiful maidens. Two little butterflies complete this amazing scene.

The detail in the casting of the metal is fabulous. The mount is of excellent quality with good weight. The gilding has a lovely antique hue.

The mount has 7 holes to take pins for fixing and it measures :- 36 cm (14.1 inches) wide x 9.5 cm (3.7 inches) high.
