B2089 - Impressive Antique French 5 Arm Brass Empire Style Candelabrum / Candlestick

This is an impressive good quality antique French brass candelabrum dating from the 19th Century. It is in the Empire style and oozes château grandeur and opulence. It is very architectural and would look exquisite whether placed on a simple country buffet or a grand enfilade.

The candelabrum holds a central candle and has 4 further arms below, each with a candle cup and an acanthus leaf bobeche.

The candelabrum stands on a base with 4 scrolled feet. The base is decorated in the Empire style with a shield and ribbon detail to the front. Each of the corners has a fabulous acanthus leaf scroll.

The column of the candlestick is also very decorative and has a magnificent lion's head to either side.

The gilding on the brass has mellowed over the years to a gorgeous buttery hue.

The candelabrum is in good antique condition. It is very heavy, weighing over 2.75 kg. The rod through the central column has bent a little over the years (please see photos) but remains sturdy.

The candlestick measures :- H 41.5 cm (16.3 inches) x W 15.5 cm (6.1 inches) across the arms.
