B2091 - Magnificent Antique French Crystal Glass Stair Newel Finial, Boule D' Escalier

This is a magnificent antique French stair newel post finial (Boule d'Escalier) dating from the 19th Century. It would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a hall or landing.

The finial has a gorgeous heavy (over 2.25 kg) facetted crystal ball held on a brass base. The crystal has a lovely smokey hue. The base has a screw for fixing to the post.

The gilding on the brass has mellowed to a lovely old gold hue.

The boule is in good sturdy antique condition. The crystal ball has had a few minor knocks. There is one on the very top of the ball and another on the collar of the ball (please see photos). These do not affect the usability of the boule or detracted from it's beauty.

The finial measures :- 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) high (not including the screw) x approx. 10 cm (3.9 inches) diameter. The base plate is approx. 5.5 cm (2.1 inches) in diameter.
