B2105 - Magnificent Pair Long Antique French Verdure Tapestry Chateau Curtains / Drapes

This is a truly magnificent pair of antique French tapestry château curtains dating from the 19th Century.

Each curtain has a spectacular verdure scene woven in cotton in a left and right configuration.

To the foreground is a water pool and in the distance is a château. It is however a fabulous tree with a profusion of branches and leaves which dominates each scene. Around this splendour is a decorative leaf border.

The colours are greens, ochres and browns.

The outer edges of the curtains are formed by the selvedge. The hems and meeting edges are sewn. 

The curtains are in good antique condition but not surprisingly, considering their age they do have some characteristics. There is a small line of wear about 3.5 cm ( 1.3 inches) long between the two large leaves towards the bottom of the left hand curtain. There is a small area of wear about one third of the way down the meeting edge of the right hand curtain. The top of the right hand curtain is a little frayed. There are some small red marks on the back of the left hand curtain but these do not show through to the front. The curtains have not been dry cleaned.

Each curtain measures :-  350 cm (11 ft 5.7 inches) long x 122 cm (4 ft ) wide.
