This is a superb large antique French apothecary bottle dating from the 1800's.
It is of stunning quality and is very decorative.
The front of the bottle is fired with a blue panel which is gilded with the word 'Formol'. Around this is gilded scroll work in beautiful detail culminating in a thistle and leaves at the bottom of the label. A gilded chain is worked around the centre of the bottle and there is also gilding around the neck.
There is a beautiful ground glass stopper. The bottom of the bottle is exceptionally thick giving it good weight. The old glass is just as you would expect it to be with signs of use but there are no chips or cracks.
The bottle has been dusted but it would clean further if required.
The bottle including the stopper measures 26 cm (10 inches) high and it's diameter is approx 9.5 cm (3.75 inches) across the bottom.
This beautiful and rare bottle would be a fantastic addition to any vintage display.
Another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
