This beautiful antique French ormolu mount would originally have come from a mirror, bed or armoire and dates from about 1880.

The centre piece is an exquisite crest with flowers and leaves, and from this flower and leaf garlands trail to either side.

The mount is of excellent quality with good weight. The fabulous detail to the casting gives the crest and garlands their wonderful three dimensional quality.

The gilding on the ormolu is lustrous and has mellowed over the years to a soft buttery old gold hue. There are even some areas of verdigris - a fabulous effect that could not be replicated.

This gorgeous decorative mount would look stunning over a doorway or as a centre piece on a curtain pelmet. Fixed above a bed it could form part of a ciel de lit from which to drape curtains.

It has 3 holes for fixing and it measures 36 cm (14 inches) wide x 11 cm (4.25 inches) high.
