This is a divine antique top hat which we found in France and bears a PARIS -  BRUXELLES label. It is of top quality and dates from the early 1900's.

It is made from silk plush and is very black and glossy. Inside there is a deep leather band with two metal studs with the letters L and D. The side lining is a gorgeous shiny oyster silk and the lining to the top is an oyster moiré silk.

On this is the maker's stamp. It has a laurel garland and bow design which surrounds a crown and lion crest with the name BASILE, PARIS - BRUXELLES. Under this is the address 48- 50 BD. ADOLPHE MAX BRUXELLES and FOURNISSEUR DE LA COUR which means by appointment to the royal court.

The top hat is in excellent condition. It has no dents and minimal wear to the crown. There is just one tiny mark to the top.

It measures 22 inches in circumferance inside - which equates to a size 6⁷/₈ which is quite small and would possibly fit a boy.

It is 5.75 inches in height and is 12 inches from back to front.

This divine top hat looks superbly smart worn but also makes a fabulously decorative piece as part of a period display.
