This is a superb antique French bénitier or holy water stoup dating from the early 1900's. It is made from brass and is very decorative and full of three dimensional effect.

The back of the bénitier has a magnificent winged angel. He is acting as a guardian angel to a small child that he leads by the hand. He has fabulous full wings and flowing robes and seems to be pointing the way for the child. They are both standing on a soft pillowy cloud and the scene is utterly charming.

The bowl of the bénitier is sumptuously decorated with gorgeous vine leaves and bunches of grapes.

The bénitier measures 18 cm (7 inches) high x 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) wide x 4 cm (1.5 inches) deep. It has a small bracket on the back for hanging on the wall .

This is a superb bénitier and would be a divine addition to any period French display.
