B396 - SOLD

This is a superb vintage French tapestry panel dating from the mid 1900's. It would originally have been framed and would now make a divine wall hanging or a fantastic bed head.

It depicts a beautiful 18th Century country river scene. The river has a bridge and it's banks are heavily wooded with large and luxuriant trees. Two ladies collecting water stop to chat and a gentleman fly fishes on the bank. The ladies are charmingly attired in bodiced dresses and have delightful bowed shoes.

The colours are beautiful. Soft muted browns, neutrals and turquoises dominate the scene. The pink of one of the ladies' dresses blends well into the muted pallette and the mustard of the other lady's dress and the fisherman's hat adds a strong contrasting highlight that works very well.

The panel is in excellent condition and is beautifully clean.

It measures 167 cm (5 ft 5 inches) wide x 76 cm (2 ft 6 inches) high. This does not include the mounting ribbon which is 2 cm (0.75 inches) wide and is present all the way round the edge.

This is a delightful panel to add a château chic finishing touch to any home.

It can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset.
