B406 - SOLD

This is a superb antique French easel picture frame dating from the late 1800's.

It is very unusual in that it is hinged and has two glass display areas for pictures.

It would be perfect for a château chic boudoir, perhaps placed on a bedside table.

We have left it as we found it with this fabulous photograph of a young French soldier from the First World War. This can be left in place or replaced with cherished photos as required.

The frame is ormolu and is hinged down the middle to take the two glass display panels. It can close like a book, stand upright on the ball feet or lean back on the stand. It also has loops on the back for hanging.

Each panel has a gorgeous bow crest with ribbon tails. On the back are the easel spring mechanisms which work smoothly. The back stand is good and strong.

The gilding on the ormolu has mellowed over the years to timeworn perfection.

The glass diplay panels are thick and heavy with bevelled edges. They are original to the frame and have acquired one or two very minor nibbles to the edges over the years. This is as one would expect and does not detract from the charm of this gorgeous frame.

Overall the frame measures 20 cm (8 inches) high x 23 cm (9 inches) wide.

While standing on the back stand it measures 11 cm (4.25 inches) deep.

Folded it measures 20 cm (8 inches) high x 12 cm (4.75 inches) wide.

A gorgeous frame to add a château chic finishing touch and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
