B425 - SOLD

This is a sublime antique French ormolu casket dating from the late 1800's, early 1900's. It would be perfect for holding a few trinkets and would add a château chic touch to any boudoir.

It is made in the shape of a three leafed clover and stands on 3 elegant legs. The lid lifts up to reveal a beautiful silk lined interior.

The detail on the piece is exquisite. There are acanthus leaf scrolls with faux ribbon ties on the lid. Each of the legs is decorated at the foot with an acanthus leaf and at the top of each of the legs is further leaf detail. Around the base is a laurel leaf garland. The sides of the casket are fluted and within each flute is leaf bud detail.

The silk of the interior is in a divine shade of cherry red. The underside of the lid and the base are padded and buttoned with tiny silk buttons. The silk which lines the sides is pleated and trimmed with matching passimenterie. This is all beautifully clean and in fabulous condition.

The casket is a substantial and weighty piece. It is in good condition and sturdy. There is one very old and tiny repair to the top of one of the legs but this does not detract.

The ormolu has mellowed over the years to a wonderful old gold hue.

The casket measures 11 cm (4.3 inches) high x 7.5 cm (3 inches) wide x 8 cm (3 inches) deep.

A sublime antique French casket to add a touch of faded château chic grandeur to any boudoir.

It can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset.
