B436 - SOLD

This is a divine antique French gilded casket dating from the late 1800's, early 1900's. It would be perfect for holding a few trinkets and would add a château chic touch to any boudoir.

It is a heavy and substantial piece, of oyster shape and with a domed, hinged lid. In the centre of the lid is a gorgeous paper vignette of Marie Antoinette resplendent in her huge hat and bouffant wig.

The base of the box and the surround to the vignette are beautifully decorated with delicate lilies of the valley. There is also a ribbon design with faux tie detail.

The lid of the box opens to reveal a gorgeous silk satin interior in a sublime shade of pink. The silk is in fabulous condition and looks virtually unused.

The hinge of the box is in excellent condition. The gilding on the box has mellowed over the years to a lovely old gold hue. The glaze on the vignette has crackled a little with the passage of time to add character to this lovely piece.

The casket measures 12 cm (4.75 inches) wide x 11 cm (4.25 inches) deep x 5 cm (2 inches) high.

A sublime antique French casket to add a touch of faded château chic grandeur to any boudoir and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!

It can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset.
