B443 - SOLD

This is a divine antique French trinket box in the Art Nouveau style and dating from about 1900.

It is made from pewter and has a gorgeous repoussé leaf and flower design on the lid and sides.

The lid is hinged and lifts to reveal an interior lined with moiré taffeta in a sublime shade of dove grey which co-ordinates beautifully with the dark grey of the pewter.

There are two compartments and each has a piece of silk ribbon attached which must have been used to secure something now long gone. The silk of the ribbon has shattered over the years but could easily be snipped out to allow full use of each compartment.

This is a very atmospheric piece and would be equally perfect for trinkets in a château chic boudoir or for stamps and nibs on a desk or bureau.

It is in good condition with just one tiny stud missing from the bottom but this does not detract.

It measures :- L 21 cm (8.25 inches) x D 10 cm (4 inches) x H 4 cm (1.5 inches).

Another superb antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!

It can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset.
