B444 - SOLDThis is a rather darling pair of antique French salières dating from the 1800's. They have a repoussé casing with a glass interior and are of excellent quality. The casing is very ornate with acanthus leaf scrolls and shells and sits on two scolled feet. We believe the metal to be silver but can find no hall marks which is not unusual. It has patinated over the years to a gorgeous two tone finish. The glass interiors are original to the salières and lift out for cleaning purposes. The glass is lovely and thick with no chips or cracks. The salières share one spoon which is lovely and heavy. It has a shell design to the back of the bowl and has an acanthus leaf and shell design to the back and front of the handle. We also believe the spoon to be made of silver as it appears to have a hall mark with the letters A and E stamped in to the bowl. Each salière measures 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) wide x 4 cm (1.5 inches) high x 4 cm (1.5 inches) deep. The spoon measures 7 cm (2.75 inches) long x 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) wide. This gorgeous ensemble would add a touch of faded grandeur to any château chic dinner table. Another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe that can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset.
