B445 - SOLD

This is an exquisite antique French sentimental diorama dating from the late 1800's.

It is beautifully made and oozes love and symbolism. It could have been a token to a loved one or could be a mourning icon.

The subject of the diorama is a gorgeous découpage mademoiselle. She has a plait of real hair and a wisp escapes her bonnet. Around her shoulders is a swathe of full blown roses and below this are the initials A and C.

Around the edge of the frame are tiny dried flowers and real ivy leaves. The background is sprinkled with gold glitter which catches the light beautifully.

All of this is covered with domed glass and held in an oval metal frame. There is a loop at the top of the frame for hanging on a hook or threading through with ribbon. It is all in good condition with some patination to the metal.

The diorama measures 14 cm (5.5 inches) high (not including hook)  x 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) wide.

A pretty and interesting piece for any French display and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.

It can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset.

N.B. we have found this very difficult to photograph as the domed glass reflects all of our chandeliers!
