B446 - SOLD

This is a beautiful antique French, framed bouquet of silk flowers dating from about 1900.

It is probably a wedding bouquet and was framed for posterity.

The bouquet is made up of two central velvet and silk roses in divine shades of coral. From these radiate sprays of Christmas roses, Stephanotis and Dianthus like flowers all made in fabulous detail. The centres of the Christmas roses are a mass of tiny pollen tipped anthers which look exquisite against the shiny white silk of the petals.

The bouquet is finished off at the base with a ribbon bow of sumptuous red silk velvet.

The colour combination of the corals, whites, greens and red of the bow is set off perfectly by the black background of the frame.

All of this is covered with domed glass and held in an oval wooden frame. The frame is painted black and benefits from a little distressing from the passage of time.

The back of the frame has it's original paper covering and there is a loop for hanging.

The frame measures 36 cm (14.25 inches) high (not including hook)  x 30 cm (11.75 inches) wide.

A pretty and interesting piece for any French display and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.

It can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset.
