This is a fabulous long panel of antique French Indienne cotton with a classic 'Tree Of Life' design and dates from about 1850. The fabric is of medium weight and is strong enough for upholstery projects.

The Indian influence on the design can be seen from the 'Tree Of Life' symbols which run the length of the fabic. Within these and between them are flowers in abundance. The flowers are many and varied and are predominantly in shades of pink highlighted with mauves and yellows. Their interlinking foliage is a sublime shade of bluey grey. This strong pastel combination contrast beautifully with the warm cream background.

The fabric is in good antique condition. There is one darned area 19 cm (7.5 inches) up from the bottom edge, which is hemmed, and there is a sewn tear which ingresses down 12 cm (4.75 inches) from the top edge. The fabric looks generally crisp and clean. The pattern repeat is 47 cm (18.5 inches).

The piece measures 252 cm (8ft 3 inches) long x 78 cm (2 ft 7 inches) wide.

This is a fabulous authentic piece of antique French Indienne cotton to add a château chic finishing touch to any home.
