B487 - SOLD

This is an absolutely beautiful antique French bénitier or holy water stoup dating from the early 1900's. It is made from bisque and is painted in gorgeous colours and detail. It would be perfect for hanging on a wall as part of a period display or collection.

Two divine winged angels hold a shell which acts as the bowl for the holy water.

The angels have glorious pink wings and their faces are painted in exquisite detail. They have rosy cheeks and baby blue eyes. Each wears a flower sprigged dress, one pink, one blue.

The shell is glazed and is of  fabulous shape. It is painted in gorgeous shades of purple and mauve and is highlighted with gilding, as are the angels.

The bénitier has two holes at the back which are threaded with a piece of braid for hanging.

It measures 14.5 cm (5.75 inches) high x 10 cm (4 inches) wide x 7 cm (2.75 inches) deep.

This beautiful bénitier is a real joy for lovers of angels and would be a worthy addition to any collection.
