B491 - SOLD
This is a sublime antique French watch stand of exceptional quality and dating from the 19th Century. It is in the shape of a sedan chair and is exquisitely adorned and trimmed.
The sides and door of the chair each have a window made with bevelled glass. Around these are beautifully painted ribbon swags and flower garlands.
Beneath each of the windows is a charming scene with cherubic angels all painted in exquisite detail and colour.
The top, base and back of the exterior of the chair are covered in velvet in a sublime shade of turquoise.
The door has a tiny handle also painted in exquisite detail. The handle turns to open the door to reveal the sumptuous interior of the sedan chair. The back and floor of the interior are covered with the turquoise velvet and the sides and interior of the door are covered in a silk damask of the same colour.
On the back of the interior is a tiny hook to hang the watch and below this is a piece of gold wire passimenterie.
The chair and it's fabrics have survived the years in fabulous condition. The lacquer on the sides and door has some areas of oxidisation but this does not detract from the beauty of this fantastic watch stand.
The sedan chair measures 17 cm (6.75 inches) high x 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) wide x 10 cm deep.
An exquisite watch stand to have and treasure and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
N.B. The watch in the photographs is not included with the sedan chair.
