B492 - SOLD

This is a divine antique French glove box dating from the Napoleon III (1852 - 1870) period.  This is a fabulous piece of lovely quality and now timeworn to perfection.

The outside of the box is covered in a divine silk velvet in a rich mid brown. This has timeworn over the years but still remains intact and very beautiful. At the back of the box where there is the least wear the quality and colour of the textile can really be appreciated. It is amazingly tactile and very easy on the eye. When the light hits the pile of the fabric it has an almost gingery hue.

The top of the box is fitted with a twisted rope handle on an ornate toleware base.

On the front of the box is a small brass stud which is a remnant of a catch now long gone but not really missed. The box sits on 4 sturdy brass feet.

The hinged lid of the box lifts up to reveal a gorgeous silk lined interior. The silk of the bottom of the box and the underside of the lid is sumptuously ruched. The lid also has a silk loop to take a glove stretcher.

The box is sturdy and suitable for use for many years to come.

This gorgeous box measures:-

33 cm (13 inches) wide x 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) deep x 6 cm (2.3 inches) high.

Another fabulous château chic antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
