B497 - SOLD

This is a sublime antique French ormolu casket dating from the late 1800's. It would be perfect for holding a few trinkets and would add a château chic touch to any boudoir.

It is made in the shape of a little bombe chest . The lid lifts up to reveal a beautiful silk lined interior.

The detail on the piece is exquisite. It sits on scrolled feet and there is extensive acanthus leaf scroll work to the sides. The lid has a frilled and fluted border with a central acanthus leaf and flower design.

The silk of the interior is of the palest faded shell pink. The underside of the lid and the base are padded and buttoned with tiny silk buttons. The silk which lines the sides is pleated and trimmed with matching passementerie. The silk has survived the years well with just one tiny area of wear which remains intact.

The casket has it's original lock and sweet little key. We have not made this work but it could be restored if required. The hinges of the casket are in good order and the lid is very heavy so it stays down securely without being locked.

The casket is a substantial and weighty piece. It is in good condition and sturdy. There is one very old and minor repair to one of the front  legs but this does not detract.

The gilding on the ormolu of the sides and legs of the casket has mellowed over the years to a wonderful old gold hue. That on the lid has an almost coppery tone.

The casket measures 10 cm (4 inches) high x 13 cm (5 inches) wide x 10 cm (4 inches) deep not including the key.

Please note :- the jewellery and watch in the photographs are not included with the casket.
