This is a fabulous pair of antique French ormolu curtain tie / hold backs dating from about 1880.

They are of a size large enough to hold back a substantial pair of château curtains.

They are of good quality with substantial weight and excellent detail and definition to the casting of the metal.

The back plate has a decorative acanthus leaf design and the fascia of the hook has a splendid palmate shield.

The gilding on the tie backs has mellowed over the years to a matt finish in a lovely old gold hue. Small areas of verdigris complete this fantastic effect which could not be replicated.

The tie backs have a hole in the back plate for screwing to a wall and there is a strap on the reverse of the back plate for hanging on a hook..

They measure :- H 19 cm (7.5 inches) x W 9 cm (3.5 inches) x D 16 cm (6.25 inches).
