B528 - SOLD

This is an absolutely beautiful antique French bénitier or holy water stoup dating from the early 1900's. It is made from bisque and is painted in lovely colour and detail. It would be perfect for hanging on a wall as part of a period display or collection.

A divine winged angel and infant stand above a font which acts as the bowl for the holy water.

The angel has magnificent feathered wings. She wears a flowing robe in a delicate shade of lemon. Both her wings and robe are dotted with gilded highlights. Her face is painted in exquisite detail. She has beautiful waved hair and rosy cheeks. Her eyes are baby blue and she has rosebud lips.

The infant is a little girl. She too is beautiful. She has a gorgeous pale blue sash tied around her adorable white dress.

The angel and little girl are in lush vegetation painted in delicate shades of green to match the font. The whole scene is breathtakingly pretty.

The bénitier has two holes at the top which are threaded with a piece of twine for hanging.

It is in good condition. The fingers of the angel and infant have some tiny chips and there is one tiny chip on the font. I found these by using a magnifiying glass and they do not detract from the beauty of this lovely bénitier.

It measures 22 cm (8.75 inches) high x 10.5 cm (4.25 inches) wide x 6 cm (2.3 inches) deep.

This beautiful bénitier is a real joy for lovers of angels and would be a worthy addition to any collection.

Another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
