B546 - SOLD

This is a divine pair of vintage Italian gilded boxes dating from about 1950.

They were probably originally made to take a pack of playing cards but would now also make a superb pair of trinket boxes to add a touch of faded continental glamour to a dressing table.

The boxes are made of wood and are gilded. Both have a delightful hand painted floral scene to the centre of the lid. The flowers are exquisitely painted in muted pastel shades and are surrounded with delicate green leaves.

One of the boxes is trimmed with red paint and has a rectangular gilded border to the flowers and the other box is trimmed with jade green paint and has an oval border to the flowers. The paint and gilding has a sublime antique patina.

The lids of the boxes lift up on tiny hinges which are in good condition. The interiors of the boxes would probably have been originally lined with paper. This has now long gone but could easily be replaced if required.

The boxes are sturdy. The paint and gilding have distressed a little with the passage of time but this justs adds character to these lovely little boxes.

Each box measures :- 13.5 cm (5.25 inches) wide x 9.5 cm (3.75 inches) deep x 4.5 cm (1.75 inches) high.

A delightful pair of boxes for cards or trinkets and another divine château chic vintage find from La Belle Étoffe.
