B554 - SOLD

This is a gorgeous antique French ormolu casket dating from the late 1800's. It would be perfect for holding a few trinkets and would add a château chic touch to any boudoir.

It is made in exquisite detail in the shape of a little chest on elegant legs. The lid lifts up to reveal a beautiful silk lined interior.

The chest is rectangular in shape and is made in the Empire style. It stands on columned legs with faux ribbon tie detail and escargot feet.

The front and back of the casket have a central shield shape with trailing roses and leaves. The sides have leaf detail and the lid has a central leaf garland with a faux ribbon tie surround and rosettes to the corners. Many of the contours of the casket are delineated with fabulous rope detail.

The silk of the interior is in a sublime shade of coral and has survived the years well with no areas of wear. The underside of the lid and the base are padded and buttoned with tiny silk buttons. The silk which lines the sides is pleated and trimmed with matching passementerie.

The casket is a substantial and weighty little piece. It is in good condition and sturdy. The lid has a piano hinge which runs the width of the casket and works perfectly.

The gilding on the ormolu of the casket has mellowed over the years to a wonderful old gold hue with coppery highlights.

The casket measures:- 12 cm (4.75 inches) wide x 12.5 cm (5 inches) high x 8 cm (3.1 inches) deep.

A gorgeous trinket casket to use and treasure and another divine antique French find from la Belle Étoffe!
