This is a fabulous antique French brass door knocker dating from the 1800's.

It is a substantial, good quality example of considerable weight.

It is in the shape of a lady's hand and is beautifully detailed. It has a ring on the index finger and there is a frilled cuff and bracelet at the wrist. The fingers clasp a ball which forms the actual knocker.

The back bracket from which the hand is hinged is also substantial and decorative. The knocker has it's original plate against which it would hammer. Both the knocker itself and the plate have a threaded bolt for fixing to the door.

The gilding on the brass has mellowed over the years to a fabulous antique patina.

The knocker measures :-

W 5 cm (2 inches) X H 12 cm (4.75 inches) X D 5 cm (2 inches)

The knocker plate measures 4 cm (1.5 inches) diameter.
