This is one of the most sublime and perfect antique French ormolu trinket caskets I have ever seen. It is in the Art Nouveau style and dates from about 1900. It would be perfect for holding a few trinkets and would add a château chic touch to any boudoir
The detail on the piece is exquisite. It sits on scrolled feet and has hanging bell like Dicentra flower decoration to the front and back panels. The sides have a large palmate leaf and the lid has further swirling leaf and flower decoration typical of the Art Nouveau style. Even the base is decorated.
The lid has a swirling handle and lifts up to reveal a silk interior in a beautiful shade of dusky pink. The underside of the lid and the base are padded and buttoned with the tiniest seed pearls. The silk which lines the sides is pleated and trimmed with matching passimenterie. The silk has survived the years in perfect condition with no signs of wear.
The casket has it's original lock and sweet little key which all works perfectly. The lid has a long piano hinge which is in excellent condition.
The casket is a substantial and weighty piece. It is in exceptional condition and is sturdy.
The gilding on the ormolu of the casket has mellowed to a lovely old gold hue.
The casket measures 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide x 12 cm (4.75 inches) high x 11 cm (4.25 inches) deep not including the key.
A gorgeous trinket casket to use and treasure and another divine antique French find from la Belle Étoffe!
