This is a beautiful antique French planter / jardinière dating from the 1800's.

It is large enough to take a couple of substantial geraniums and would sit beautifully on a window ledge or shelf.

It is made from repoussé toleware in the Rococo style and is extremely decorative.  It sits on 4 scrolled acanthus leaf feet and has superb scrolled handles. Each of the sides has a central acanthus leaf crest below which is extensive acanthus leaf scrollwork with a sweet shell shape to the base.

The gilding on the toleware is a mellow old gold.

The jardinière has a charming lift out zinc tray with two little handles, to take the plants.

The jardinière is in good condition and would add a gorgeous finishing touch to a château chic interior.

It measures :- H 19 cm (7.5 inches) x W 42 cm (16.5 inches) x D 20.5 cm (8 inches).
