B640 - SOLD

This is a gorgeous antique French trinket casket dating from the late 1800's. It would be perfect for holding a few trinkets and would add a château chic touch to any boudoir.

It is made of spelter and is cast in lovely detail. It sits on scrolled acanthus leaf feet and to the front and back panels are two facing griffins. Between the griffins is a large flower filled urn and above and around them are flower garlands. To each of the sides of the casket is a central laurel leaf wreath tied at the base with a ribbon with flowing tails.

The lid has a laurel leaf and ribbon handle and lifts up to reveal a silk interior in a beautiful shade of greeny/ yellow. The underside of the lid and the base are padded and buttoned with tiny silk covered buttons. The silk which lines the sides is pleated and trimmed with matching passimenterie. The silk has survived the years in good condition with just the merest hint of wear.

The casket is a substantial and weighty little piece. It is in good condition and is sturdy.

The gilding on the spelter has mellowed to a lovely dark old gold hue.

The casket measures 12 cm (4.75 inches) wide x 9 cm (3.5 inches) high x 10 cm (4 inches) deep.

A gorgeous trinket casket to use and treasure and another divine antique French find from la Belle Étoffe!
