This is a fabulous pair of antique French ormolu curtain tie / hold backs dating from about 1880.

They are of good quality with substantial weight and excellent detail and definition to the casting of the metal.

The back plate has a decorative acanthus leaf design with tiny flowers and roses. The fascia of the hook is also adorned with acanthus leaf scrolls and has a little cluster of the tiny flowers.

The gilding on the tie backs is still lustrous. It has mellowed a little in places to give a fantastic antique patination that could not be replicated.

The tie backs have a hole in the back plate for screwing to a wall and there is a strap on the reverse of the back plate for hanging on a hook..

They measure :- H 16 cm (6.25 inches) x W 5 cm (2 inches) x D 12 cm (4.75 inches).
