This is a charming copper plate engraving executed by the French engraver Porporali after the work of Angelica Kauffman. It was published in Paris circa 1790 and it is held in a 19th Century frame.

The delightful image depicts a resting cupid with his finger to his mouth. He has beautiful feathered wings. He has a quiver of arrows at his side and his bow rests at his feet. The plate is dedicated to Her Royal Highness Marie Therese, Archduchess of Austria.

It is held in a wooden frame dating from the mid to late 1800's.  The frame is laquered and has a gilded inner edge.  The glass plate is full of gorgeous bubbles that we have been unable to capture in our photographs.

The engraving is in good condition with just a few age spots. The frame has distressed a little over the years which adds character to this wonderful old piece.

The frame measures :- 53.5 cm (21 inches) high x 39.5 cm (15.5 inches) wide. The size of the engraving visible through the glass is 47 cm (18.5 inches) high x 33 cm (13 inches) wide.

A beautiful engraving to add a château chic finishing touch and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
