This is a superb antique French ormolu ciel de lit / bed couronne or bed canopy dating from about 1880.

It would have been hung above a bed to create a decorative centre piece from which to hang drapes.

It has a gilded metal frame almost circular in shape and adorned with faux ribbon ties. The crest is a gorgeous bow with ribbon tails and below this two beautiful flower garlands are swagged. The  flowers and bow are cast in exquisite detail and the gilding has a fabulous lustrous hue

Within the metal frame is a wooden frame and it is to this that the drapes would be attached.

The ciel de lit is sturdy and measures :- W 63 cm (24.75 inches) x D 58 cm (22.75 inches) x H 22 cm (8.5 inches).

This is a divine bed canopy to add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a boudoir and another fabulous antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
