This is a divine antique French jewel / boudoir box dating from the Napoleon III era C1860. It is monogrammed with the initials AM . It would be perfect to take a few precious letters or keepsakes in a château chic boudoir.
The box is covered in red silk velvet. The original fantastic pile and vibrant colour of the textile can be seen on the back of the box and beneath the lid.
To one of the corners of the lid of the box is a beautiful scrolled silvered metal shield with a flower and leaf surround. In the centre of the shield are the letters A & M beautifully engraved.
The front of the box has a decorative escutcheon plate but the key has now long gone. The box sits on 4 very decorative lion's feet.
The lid of the box lifts up to reveal a sumptuous padded silk interior in a gorgeous deep red . The buttons are tiny and are also made of silk.
The box has obviously been loved and used over the last 150 years or so and is now timeworn to perfection but remains sturdy and is suitable for use for years to come.
It measures :- H 10.5 cm (4 inches) x W 26 cm (10.25 inches) x D 18.5 cm (7.25 inches).
This is a fabulous atmospheric piece to use and enjoy and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
