B702 - SOLD
This is a superb antique French jewel / boudoir box dating from the Napoleon III era. This is a fabulous piece of excellent quality. It has obviously been loved and used throughout it's 150 + years and is now timeworn to perfection. It would be perfect to take a few precious letters or keepsakes in a château chic boudoir.
The box is covered in red silk velvet. The original fantastic pile and vibrant colour of the textile can be seen on the back of the box and beneath the lid.
To the corners of the lid are beautiful silvered metal acanthus leaf appliqués and in the centre is a swirling acanthus leaf shield. The front of the box has a decorative escutcheon plate but the key has now long gone.
The lid lifts up to reveal a sumptuous padded silk interior in a rich burgundy. The buttons are tiny and are also made of silk.
The lid has a sturdy hinge. It holds a heavy bevelled mirror which is free of foxing and gives an excellent reflection.
The box sits on 4 ball feet. It is sturdy and suitable for use for many years to come.
It measures :- H 15 cm (6 inches) x W 26 cm (10.25 inches) x D 19 cm (7.5 inches).
This is a fabulous atmospheric piece to use and enjoy and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
